I remember sitting on the floor in my single bedroom apartment...
I looked at my non matching circle chairs that I kept from college (one of which was passed down from my cousin), my makeshift TV stand (an old cabinet my parents had), and my full size bed that was on the floor.
Despite what my situation looked like, I was extremely grateful to be working in corporate when my parents were forced to be entrepreneurs and have my own place nearly as big as my parents' home.
I could have stopped there, but here’s what I had to overcome to next level and SO CAN YOU:
1️⃣Money is evil😈
Since your financial situation is better than what your parents had, you feel guilty for wanting anything more. You feel too afraid to be shamed for being “too rich” in front of family and want to keep a humble appearance. This is where the mindset of having money is a bad thing comes from. There is actually nothing wrong with your desire. Money is not good or evil - it is just a vehicle for options.
2️⃣I never have enough🥴
Even with my clients who make $100K+ struggle with this. Since you grew up with parents who have a scarcity mindset (from war times or systemic disadvantages) you can’t help but carry their baggage too. On top of that, you have a strong need to belong in society because you were always the minority. You do a lot of things that actually don’t make you happy or align with your values on the inside. Work on the internal.
3️⃣Money is hard work😳
You were taught that you can have anything you want if you worked hard enough for it. Here’s something that will blow your mind…. YOU DON’T GET PAID FOR HOW HARD YOU WORK. You get paid for how much value you provide. When you get frustrated with how come you’re not making more money think about how you can bring more value to the table.
